President of Uzbekistan launches Beeline data center as VEON reaffirms its long-term commitment to the country’s future

The $40 million project in Bukhara reflects VEON’s confidence in Uzbekistan’s investment potential and digital future

During a working visit to the Bukhara region, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev marked the start of operations at Beeline Uzbekistan’s new data center. The project, backed by $40 million in private investment, was implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The launch of the data center is more than a technology milestone. It reflects the scale of change taking place in Uzbekistan: accelerating digital transformation, the emergence of new industries and growing opportunities for international business. VEON sees these developments as a foundation for long-term investment and continued growth in the country.

Over its 20 years in Uzbekistan, VEON has invested approximately $1.8 billion in the country’s economy, with the majority of this investment made over the past decade. The company continues to expand its presence: alongside its $40 million investment in the Bukhara data center, another strategic step was the acquisition of Perfectum for $207 million. These decisions reflect VEON’s confidence in the potential of the Uzbek market and its digital economy.

The location of this new high-tech facility in the Bukhara region is particularly significant. Expanding digital infrastructure beyond the capital broadens the geographical reach of modern investment and helps build a resilient foundation for the development of digital services across the country.

Located in the Kagan district, the new data center will become part of Beeline Uzbekistan’s geographically distributed backup infrastructure. This will help improve the reliability and continuity of services for millions of users. The project also provides for future expansion.

The data center’s design documentation has received the Tier III Certification of Design Documents (TCDD) from the Uptime Institute, confirming that the project meets international requirements for infrastructure reliability and resilience.

The new facility in Bukhara and VEON’s continued investments support the objectives of the Digital Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy. They create opportunities to develop advanced digital services and artificial intelligence-based solutions, while demonstrating the company’s confidence in Uzbekistan’s long-term prospects.
